FAQs

DERMALROLL is a microneedle derma roller kit with replaceable head containing:
- 1 derma roller with 600 fine stainless steel needles (0.25mm)
- 1 clear plastic storage case
NOTE: This product is not intended to diagnose, mitigate, treat, cure or prevent any disease
What are the benefits of derma rolling?
According to Dr. Hadley King, a dermatologist in New York City, the benefits of derma rolling include everything from immediate skin plumping to scar improvement.
- Helps improve scars: Dr. King cites a study which, she explains, "found that the technique can reduce atrophic [sunken or pitted] scars."
- Boosts active ingredients: "Applying active ingredient-based skincare to the face right after dermarolling allows those super ingredients (like retinoids, vitamin C, ferulic acid, hyaluronic acid, growth factors, AHA/BHA) to penetrate more deeply, boosting their efficacy," Dr. King says.
- Plumps the skin immediately: The immediate skin plumping effect can be for two reasons: increased penetration of ingredients like hyaluronic acid or inflammation and swelling from the microtraumas, Dr. King explains.
- Plumps the skin over time: Dr. King says that "long term plumping could result from increased collagen over time."

Is derma rolling suitable for all skin types?
Dermarolling can benefit all skin types, though those with sensitive skin should be mindful. "I would recommend dermarolling for someone who does not have extremely sensitive skin, and I would not recommend dermarolling on inflamed, cystic or broken out skin," says Dr. Hadley King, a dermatologist in New York City.
Those with more mature skin will likely find it particularly useful, as it's an ideal method for filling in fine lines and wrinkles, thickening the skin under the eyes (helping to diminish the appearance of dark circles and bags), and even plumping up lips.
Dermarolling is also an effective treatment for acne scars and discoloration because it penetrates the skin so deeply, helping to break up old scar tissue and stimulate healing.

How long does it take to see results from derma rolling?
As with most skincare treatments, the amount of time it takes to see results can vary depending on your skin type, the dermaroller you're using, and how often you use it. It may take between two to six months to see results.
In terms of frequency of use, it's up to you. You can safely use your microneedling tool as often as a few times a week, but some may choose to use it just once a month and are still able to maintain results.
It depends on what you’re most comfortable with and what kinds of skin issues you’re treating -- if you have a lot of discoloration or fine lines, you may want to use yours more often.

Are there any side effects from derma rolling?
"The usual side effects of microneedling is mild temporary pinpoint bleeding at sites of needles penetrating the skin, mild-to-moderate redness of the skin—which is often transient, but can last for a few hours to up to 24 hours, mild swelling, especially around sensitive skin areas like the eyes," Dr. Kobets (Director of Cosmetic Dermatology at Montefiore-Einstein Advanced Care) says.
"Of note, dermarollers specifically can cause extra damage to the skin in a few ways. The first is that the dermaroller may not be fully cleaned and bacteria and other pathogens can grow on it. Another way is that the dermaroller can shear or microscopically tear the skin and create mechanical irritation as it rolls over the skin and can cause excess irritation and potentially cause hyperpigmentation."

How often should I use the roller?
The DERMALROLL may be used up to 3-5 times a week on face and neck.
Can you disinfect the roller needles?
We recommend that you disinfect the roller needles before and after every use. Submerge the entire roller head in a cup of 91% isopropyl alcohol (found at any drugstore) for 5-10 minutes after using and before your next use. Dispose of the roller head after 3 to 5 uses.
Why dispose/replace afer 3 to 5 times a uses? That seems very frequent.
The safety standards of professional microneedling require healthcare professionals to dispose of needles after each use. We recommend that 0.25mm rollers should be replaced after 3 to 5 uses if proper cleaning methods are used.
This is based on needle length, wear and tear on the needles, and sanitation. Much like a razor blade, the sharpness of the needles will dull with each use. However, unlike a razor blade, micro needles puncture the skin, are more invasive and prone to bacterial contamination.
To minimize injury from dull, bent, and/or damaged needles due to regular usage, and to prevent contamination or unsanitary use, we strongly recommend rollers should be replaced after 3 to 5 uses. This recommendation is supported by many estheticians, dermatologists, and healthcare professionals.
We understand that replacing your derma roller frequently can be cost prohibitive. For a more affordable solution, you can purchase replaceable roller heads from our partner, Prosper Beauty.

Can I use skincare products when derma rolling?
Yes, experts first recommend cleansing your skin, followed by an exfoliant and peel. Then apply serum(s) and let dry before derma rolling.
NOTE: If you have sensitive skin, using serums and products with vitamin C and retinol along with derma rolling may cause irritation. Also we recommend careful derma rolling on your lips and around your eyes, as this skin is thin and delicate. Make sure to never apply serum or derma roll on your eyelids.
After rolling, you can apply a second treatment of serum followed by moisturizer
Can you use DERMALROLL under your eyes?
If you plan to use it under your eyes or around that area, we recommend you do you carefully. First, the skin around the eyes are very thin. Also when placing needles close to your eyes you should be very cautious.
We recommend safety first above everything. We do not recommend using our derma roller on the eyelid as the skin surrounding the eyes are thin.
Can you use DERMALROLL on your scalp to treat hair loss?
Derma rolling could possibly be used to treat hair loss, as a result of a medical condition such as alopecia, or other side effects from medical treatments like chemotherapy. Consult your physician to determine if using a derma roller for hair loss is the best option for you.
How long are the micro needles?
The micro needles are 0.25mm.
Are these actual needles or a solid wheel stamped out of a sheet of material?
The needles are on a stamped wheel, and would require precise and heavy force to dislodge them. They are quality stainless steel needles and not "knives" and will perform the same as individual needles. You may view the high resolution photos in the product listing for a visual representation.
